Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola of course is the *other* San Francisco Bay Area movie maker brat(Skywalker Ranch is located in Marin County which is part of the Bay Area).
Lost in Translation of course is an homage to the aesthetic sensibilities of pre-Internet-boom persons. And when right at the beginning of the story unfolding Bill Murray gets introduced to a group of Japanese, including a Mr. Minami, this is an homage to the Bay Area pre-Internet boom sophisticate who is casually aware of the fact that

» Minami, a partner at Minami, Lew & Tamaki, is best known for his work as lead counsel in three landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases overturning the convictions of Japanese-American men who refused to be interned during World War II. Minami also co-founded the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area and the Asian Law Caucus. «

At least that is what I believe homegirl Sofia would have wanted us to think.
