...and the levee was dry
"I drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry."
Don McLean
That the levee broke and was anything but dry in New Orleans was often referred to in commentary about the devasting flood.
Fuhr mit meinem Chevy zum Deich, der Deich war aber trocken.
Here is a link to the Don McLean lyrics, and the songs starts playing as soon as the page loads. A melancholic song capturing the mood of the eve of the Sixties. I remember exactly the first time I heard the song - in high-school, in Würzburg Germany.
Little did I know that, a couple of years later, I should spent my formative and instructive years in Berkeley - where the Sixties had rocked, and Free Speech and the student movement had been born, and - while I was living and working there, UNIX and the Internet Protocol has been helped along as well by some freaks at U.C. Berkeley. A thing the Berkeley politicos tend to overlook.
And which I have come to appreciate more and more. The Internet after all helped Free Speech along quite a bit, too.
